The Memory Film

THE MEMORY FILM

The debate within Russia about how to deal – and whether to deal – with its Soviet past is intensifying. How should victims of the repressions be commemorated? Was the repression really that bad? Was Stalin a murderer or a hero? Like most debates, this one is being carried out under the surface. Official views are often ambiguous. This film, the third in the “On Russia” series, dives into the battle for Russian history and remembrance. The film is currently in development.

The “Wall of Grief” opened in Moscow in October 2017.
